MEET DANI
Lifestyle Newborn & Maternity Photographer
Our lovely and talented Photographer, Dani, comes with a mountain of experience! Not only is she warm, funny, and an absolute professional at what she does as the primary Photographer for Vancouver Newborn Photographers, Dani has over 14 years of working with and photographing kids as a preschool photographer in her repertoire. She has also assisted and mentored under Kim Forrester for the past 3 years, adopting her neutral, natural and timeless style of photography and specialized techniques.
Dani is a South Surrey mom with two school-aged boys. She loves to spend her free time hiking with her dog, paddling on the water, and marveling over her houseplants’ new leaves (honestly, that last one makes her so happy). Want to learn more? View our Q & A session with Dani below!
Q & A with Dani:
In your opinion, what makes a good photograph?
Some of my favourite photos are ones capturing candid emotions in the moment; the cheeky smirk on an older siblings' face as they do the exact opposite of what mom just said to do, the glint in dad's eye, so full of love as he looks at his new baby, mom’s beautiful joyful smile while she tells me a happy story about her family. The light could be dim, or some hair out of place, or even a cranky, hungry toddler making a fuss - if the emotions are authentic and looking at it takes you back to that magical moment, you have a perfect photo.
What is the biggest challenge of being a photographer?
My biggest challenge as a photographer is focus. Not focus in my images, but focus in my mind. I have SO MANY ideas. Different styles I’d love to try shooting, locations and lighting scenarios, and editing techniques. I want to do it all. Focusing myself on one thing at a time in a session is always a challenge, but when I have clients that allow my creativity to flow, we get some of my favourite shots and that’s always a win!
What camera and lens do you shoot with?
I shoot with a Canon Mark IV and you’ll most often find me with my trusty 50mm lens making magical light in your home.
What is your favorite type of baby photo to capture?
My favourite baby photos are when we can see connection; baby gazing up at mom while she coos and smiles down at them, a loving look between parents as baby sleeps peacefully in their arms, sweet kisses from siblings or snuggles from the family pooch. That’s the stuff that makes my heart burst and look forward to every newborn session.
How do you make a client feel comfortable in front of the camera?
Do you like Dad jokes? lol … I have an arsenal of them, and if you don’t laugh at my terrible jokes you’ll laugh at me telling them in the hopes you WILL laugh! All joking aside… I love meeting new people and sharing stories, I always go into a session looking forward to creating some happy memories with a new family that I just happen to be taking photos of.
